SuperGold reaches milestone of 10,000 outlets

There are now more than 10,000 business outlets around the country where you can use your SuperGold Card.

In the last 18 months the number of SuperGold businesses has nearly quadrupled, and we are continuing to contact a range of businesses to encourage them to join the programme.

Note: Another reason businesses sign up is because they’ve been asked by a cardholder if they offer a SuperGold discount. So go ahead and ask a business to join, often they’ve already thought about it and just need that extra nudge. (It’s free for businesses to join and easy to sign up).

Retiring to Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau to become easier

On 9 August Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully announced improved pension portability for those looking to retire to the Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau from New Zealand.

People who are entitled to NZ Super will be able to depart New Zealand to live in one of these three countries after the age of 55 and apply, without returning to New Zealand, for their NZ Super once they turn 65. Currently people would have to stay in New Zealand until turning 65 in order to qualify.

The new policy will need legislation to be passed and is expected to apply from 1 July 2015.

Get online savvy - a guide for seniors

Consumer Affairs has released an online guide to help protect people from scams. The guide has useful tips, stories from victims of fraud and a list of online scams to watch out for.

Recycle your old TVs

TV TakeBack provides subsidised recycling of unwanted TVs at collection sites throughout New Zealand. The Government is partnering with recyclers, retailers and councils to help recycle more TVs.

TVs should be recycled responsibly because they contain materials that can be hazardous to our health and environment, or that can be re-used.

The programme will be rolled out across the North Island over the upcoming months.
