Government assistance for seniors
The New Zealand Government provides a wide range of assistance to older New Zealanders. This section of the SuperGold Card website provides information on the various forms of assistance you might be entitled to and where to go for more information.
General entitlements
There is a wide range of general entitlements and extra help available to New Zealand residents aged 65 years or over.
Assistance with health costs
There are a number of different forms of assistance available to help with health costs. The easiest way to access this assistance is through the three major health subsidy cards and through enrolment with a Primary Health Organisation (PHO).
Disability support
If you are assessed by a needs assessor at your District Health Board (DHB) or Needs Assessment Service Co-ordination (NASC) agency as needing disability support, you may be entitled to a package of funded disability support or assistance.
Other assistance
A number of other forms of government assistance is available to seniors, including the Rates Rebate Scheme, Residential Care Subsidy, the Total Mobility Scheme and Older Driver Relicensing.
