The Veteran SuperGold Card

The Veteran’s SuperGold Card recognises the contribution made to New Zealand by New Zealand veterans.  It does not provide any additional benefits to eligible veterans to those available to recipients of the SuperGold Card.

The Veteran’s SuperGold Card is gold in colour, but has a prominent black “V” instead of an “S” and an image of three poppies.

Who is eligible for a Veteran SuperGold Card?

If you are over 65 years of age, you are eligible for a Veteran’s SuperGold Card if you have served in the New Zealand Armed Forces in a recognised war or emergency under the War Pensions Act 1954, or in the New Zealand Merchant Navy during World War II.

If you are under 65 years and receive a Veteran’s Pension, you are also eligible for a Veteran’s SuperGold Card.

Your service in the New Zealand Armed Forces will be verified by Veterans’ Affairs New Zealand.

The Veteran's Pension

A veteran, who has reached the qualifying age for New Zealand Superannuation, may qualify for a Veteran's Pension if the veteran has served in a recognised war or emergency and is in receipt of a War Disablement Pension of at least 70 percent.

A veteran, who has not reached the qualifying age for New Zealand Superannuation, may qualify for a Veteran's Pension if the veteran has served in a recognised war or emergency, and is unable to work for a substantial period due to either a physical or psychological disability.

If you would like to find out more about the Veteran’s Pension, contact our Veteran’s Pension Centre on 0800 650 656, at veteranspension@msd.govt.nz, or visit the Ministry of Social Development website.
